I’ve been playing professional golf since 1989 and it’s been a great career. I am really excited to be working with the Stryker team because I have had a history with my knee.
In 2008, I had a surgery which left me bone on bone on the lateral side of my right knee and had a tremendous amount of pain. A lot of instability. I had to have it drained 18 times that year. By the end of the season, I was pretty much shot because I was limping around. I had weakness in my knee and my game deteriorated. I couldn’t stay in the game anymore. I decided to have my knee replaced.
I wanted to have a chance to have my lifestyle back. To this day I am just so glad with the decision I made to have my knee replaced. It was a fantastic decision. Probably one of the smartest ones I’ve ever had if you go back to the history of decisions I made in my life.
Be sure to talk to your doctor to find out if the Stryker GetAroundKnee is right for you. It’s the right knee for me.

For 25 years I played golf at the professional level. I dedicated myself to the game, and was fortunate enough to win some of golf’s most prestigious tournaments, against some of the best players to ever play this game. But, then I decided to put my golf career on hold to spend more time with my family and be there as my children grew up.
When I was ready to return to golf, I realized my hip wouldn’t let me. I had developed osteoarthritis in my left hip that was causing significant pain. Hip pain really made me question if I’d ever get back to the game again.
My hip pain wasn’t something that only affected me on the golf course; it limited my ability to do everyday things and began to impact my family time.
It was the normal things that I took for granted, like getting in and out of a car and keeping up with my kids. I wasn’t myself anymore.
My hip pain became so bad and I decided to talk to my doctor.
He indicated that I was a candidate for a total hip replacement. The thought of having my hip replaced scared me at first. But at only 54 years old, I knew I couldn’t continue to suffer in this amount of pain.
My doctor and I discussed the differences in hip replacements. I had no idea there were differences! I just figured all hip replacements were the same.
I spent a lot of time discussing and understanding the benefits and risks of hip replacement. Given my active lifestyle, my doctor suggested Stryker’s Mobile Bearing Hip™. And after careful consideration, I was ready to have my hip replaced.
I had put off surgery because I was scared. I thought I was too young for joint replacement, and I thought I could just deal with the pain. But I hurt so badly for so long. Looking back, having my hip replaced was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I only wish I didn’t wait so long.
I love my Stryker Hip—it has allowed me to get back to normal everyday things and return to the game I love.
More importantly, I’m back to myself again.
If you have hip pain from arthritis, don’t just deal with it, there are options. Find a surgeon who uses Stryker Hips and see if one is right for you. It was the right choice for me!
